digiKam is an Open-Source project Photos management software, especially for KDE but you can use it on Ubuntu or others distros too. In digiKam photos are organized in albums which can be sorted chronologically, by folder layout or by custom collections. Developers recently released digiKam 4.13.0 with a list of 31 bug fixes.


digiKam 4.13.0 does not include new features accept some bug fixes. But digiKam has a lot of features and will be adding more in digiKam 5.0. But for now, let’s see some of the basic features of present digiKam.

  • Plugins architectures

To ease development and to share code with other KDE applications, digiKam make use of two plugin architectures:

  • Kipi plugins for lead interface.
  • Image plugins for image editor.

Other than this there are many other features that you can dig into on the official page.

DigiKam 4.13.0 can be also installed on non-KDE Ubuntu 14.10, Ubuntu 14.04 derivatives like Elementary OS 0.3 Freya, Peppermint 6, Deepin 2014.3, Linux Lite 2.4, LXLE 14.04.3, Pinguy OS 14.04.3 via the ppa:philip5/extra PPA, but will install a lot of KDE libraries, so it is not recommended.

So, follow the instructions for your system and desktop environment exactly, in order to get a successful installation.
