How To Install/Upgrade To Linux Kernel 3.12.52 In Ubuntu/Linux Mint

For 64-bit Systems

  • Download Kernel files
$ sudo mkdir kernel && cd kernel$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12.52-trusty/linux-headers-3.12.52-031252_3.12.52-031252.201601091434_all.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12.52-trusty/linux-headers-3.12.52-031252-generic_3.12.52-031252.201601091434_amd64.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12.52-trusty/linux-image-3.12.52-031252-generic_3.12.52-031252.201601091434_amd64.deb
  • Install/Upgrade Linux Kernel 3.12.52
$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb
  • After installing update-grub and reboot your system
$ sudo update-grub

$ sudo reboot
For 32-bit Systems

  • Download Kernel files
$ mkdir kernel && cd kernel$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12.52-trusty/linux-headers-3.12.52-031252_3.12.52-031252.201601091434_all.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12.52-trusty/linux-headers-3.12.52-031252-generic_3.12.52-031252.201601091434_i386.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v3.12.52-trusty/linux-image-3.12.52-031252-generic_3.12.52-031252.201601091434_i386.deb
  • Install/Upgrade Linux Kernel 3.12.52
$ sudo dpkg -i *.deb
  • After install update grub and reboot system
$ sudo update-grub$ sudo reboot

Uninstall Linux Kernel 3.12.52

If you face any problem after upgrading to latest kernel 3.12.52 then you can also uninstall and switch back to the previous kernel.
$ sudo apt-get remove 'linux-headers-3.12.52*' 'linux-image-3.12.52*'
