Linux Kernel 4.0 RC1 Released, Install in Ubuntu/Linux Mint

Install Linux kernel RC1 In Ubuntu/Linux Mint

Linux Kernel 4.0 RC1, you can install/upgrade on Ubuntu 15.04 vivid Vervet, ubuntu 14.10 Utopic Unicorn, Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty Tahr (LTS) and Linux Mint 17.1 Rebecca, Linux Mint 17 Qiana.

Download Kernel DEB files For 32-bit Systems

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/linux-headers-4.0.0-040000rc1_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_all.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/linux-headers-4.0.0-040000rc1-generic_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_i386.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/linux-image-4.0.0-040000rc1-generic_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_i386.deb

Install .deb files –

$ sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.0*.deb linux-image-4.0*.deb

Reboot system –

$ sudo reboot

Download Kernel DEB files For 64-bit Systems

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/linux-headers-4.0.0-040000rc1_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_all.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/linux-headers-4.0.0-040000rc1-generic_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_amd64.deb

$ wget http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/v4.0-rc1-vivid/linux-image-4.0.0-040000rc1-generic_4.0.0-040000rc1.201502222235_amd64.deb

Install .deb files –

$ sudo dpkg -i linux-headers-4.0*.deb linux-image-4.0*.deb

Reboot system –

$ sudo reboot

You have successfully installed Linux Kernel 4.0 RC1 in your operating system. To check kernel version open up the terminal and type the following command –

$ uname -r

Notice – Installing or upgrading kernel may cause system unstable, remove kernel 4.0 RC1 if you have any problem.

To uninstall –

$ sudo apt-get remove 'linux-headers-4.0*' 'linux-image-4.0*'
